Allison McKenzie Travels to Haiti with STAND to Provide Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy Central’s (PTC) Allison McKenzie, PT, DPT, recently traveled to Northern Haiti with a group of physical therapists and other medical professionals to provide healthcare to residents of Haiti through Sustainable Therapy And New Development (STAND).

STAND, an organization dedicated to providing physical therapy outreach to the people of Haiti, strives to establish permanent access to orthopedic rehabilitative services in Haiti through direct patient care and clinical training of its citizens in the hope that someday their facilities will be operated by Haitian clinicians.

During Dr. McKenzie’s one-week long trip to Northern Haiti, she worked to restore people’s functional mobility by providing comprehensive evaluations and treatment for a variety of traumatic and injurious events and orthopedic and neurological conditions. The STAND clinics provide manual physical therapy, wound care, patient education, orthotics, and the fabrication of prosthetics to their patients.

“We are very proud of Dr. McKenzie taking the time to travel to Haiti to provide physical therapy this fall,” said Bridgit Finley, CEO of Physical Therapy Central. “Her passion for her career is evident in her work both in our clinics and out in the community.”

“I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to travel to Haiti with an incredible group of physical therapists and other medical professionals this fall through STAND. I was amazed to find that despite its apparent struggles, this neighbor country of ours is full of beauty, incredible resilience, and hope, and I look forward to keeping up with STAND’s progress in the coming years,” said Dr. McKenzie.
